Yonex ASTROX 77 PRO vs ASTROX 88D PRO: published specifications

A source-checked comparison of Yonex’s currently published configuration, construction, length, flex, weight/grip and stringing fields for the ASTROX 77 PRO and ASTROX 88D PRO badminton racquets.

Published Sep 3, 2026 · Last checked Sep 3, 2026

The Yonex ASTROX 77 PRO and ASTROX 88D PRO are both listed by Yonex as unstrung badminton racquets in the ASTROX series, but the reviewed manufacturer pages publish materially different configuration fields. The ASTROX 77 PRO international page lists medium flex, a 10 mm longer length, and both 4U (Avg. 83 g) and 3U (Avg. 88 g) weight/grip options. The ASTROX 88D PRO page on Yonex USA lists stiff flex, a 5 mm longer length, and 4UG5.

The sources are current manufacturer pages from different Yonex regional storefronts. That matters: the ASTROX 77 PRO page describes internationally listed configurations, while the ASTROX 88D PRO page describes the United States listing reviewed here. This article compares only the fields published on those pages; it does not assume that all markets offer the same codes, colours, inventory, or revisions.

This is not a play test, laboratory evaluation, or prediction of power, speed, control, feel, durability, or player suitability. Terms such as medium, stiff, head heavy, and the named material/technology labels below are retained as Yonex catalogue fields. They are not independent RacketGearScout measurements.

The configuration fields are not like-for-like options

The clearest purchase-check difference is the listed weight/grip information. Yonex presents two option families for the ASTROX 77 PRO: 4U with an average 83 g notation and G5 or G6 grips, plus 3U with an average 88 g notation and G4, G5, or G6 grips. The USA page for the ASTROX 88D PRO lists one configuration, 4UG5.

That does not establish that the ASTROX 88D PRO exists only in that configuration globally, nor that every market has every ASTROX 77 PRO code. It establishes what these specific pages stated when reviewed. A buyer comparing retailer listings should match the whole code—not just the model name—and confirm the region, grip size, and weight designation before ordering.

The ASTROX 77 PRO’s 83 g and 88 g values are explicitly published as averages. They should not be read as a promise that each individual racquet will weigh exactly that amount. The 88D PRO page uses the 4UG5 code but does not provide an individual-frame measured weight on the reviewed page.

Length, flex, and stringing fields need their source context

Yonex lists the ASTROX 77 PRO as 10 mm longer with medium flex. The reviewed ASTROX 88D PRO USA page instead lists 5 mm longer and stiff flex. Those are valid catalogue distinctions for identifying and sorting the two listed models, but they do not quantify how either racquet will feel or perform for a particular player.

The published stringing guidance also differs by configuration. Yonex gives the ASTROX 77 PRO a 19–27 lb range for 4U and a 20–28 lb range for 3U; the USA ASTROX 88D PRO listing gives 20–28 lbs. These values are manufacturer guidance for the cited product configurations, not universal prescriptions for every string, installation method, or player. String choice, tension, installation, and any grip changes affect the finished setup beyond the unstrung-frame fields.

Construction labels should be kept as labels

The ASTROX 77 PRO international page separates its construction information into frame, shaft, and joint fields: HM Graphite, Flex Fuse, and Tungsten in the frame; HM Graphite, Namd™, and Ultra PE Fiber in the shaft; plus a NEW Built-in T-Joint. The ASTROX 88D PRO USA page uses a combined material field and a broader technical-specification list, including HM GRAPHITE, CSR, TUNGSTEN, 2G-Namd™ FLEX FORCE, ULTRA PE FIBER, and other named terms.

Different formatting does not prove a hierarchy between the models. Nor does a shared material word establish an identical frame construction. The responsible use of these fields is source verification: check that a seller’s claimed model, region, and configuration correspond to the manufacturer listing. Any conclusion about comparative on-court outcomes would need independent evidence and a disclosed method; none is supplied here.

A buyer-relevant verification sequence

  1. Confirm the exact model name: ASTROX 77 PRO versus ASTROX 88D PRO.
  2. Match the weight/grip code to the listing. The reviewed ASTROX 77 PRO page lists 4U and 3U options; the reviewed USA ASTROX 88D PRO page lists 4UG5.
  3. Check which regional Yonex page and retailer market the offer refers to. The sources in this comparison are not the same regional storefront.
  4. Keep the published length, flex, balance, and stringing fields attached to the exact configuration rather than turning them into a performance guarantee.
  5. Recheck the manufacturer page before purchase because specifications, configurations, and regional listings can change.
